ECO Secretary General call on the Iranian Minister of Post, Telegraph and Telephone |

H. E. Seyed Mojtaba Arastou, ECO Secretary General, in continuation
of his meetings with the senior officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran,
as the host country of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), paid a
visit to H. E. Mr. Motamedi, the Iranian Minister of Post, Telegraph and
Telephone, and exchanged ideas on the issue of expanding cooperation among
the ECO Member States in the area of Communication.
In the said meeting, Mr. Motamedi emphasizing on the importance of
regional cooperation, proposed that Iran is ready to host Ministerial
Meetings on Communication, and as well announced the readiness of his
country to establish a permanent training center for communication
technology for the ECO Member Countries in Tehran, in order to transfer the
experiences and expertise of Iran in this area. It is expected that these
two proposals be included for consideration in the agenda of the forthcoming
ECO Ministerial Meeting on Communication, the 4th of its kind,
due to be held in Izmir, Turkey.
Mr. Arastou, appreciating the importance the government of Iran is
attaching to the regional cooperation in the framework of ECO, named
communication as an important field of cooperation among the members. He
also referred to the project dedicated to establishment of ECO Net, by which
ECO Secretariat will be in online, direct contact with the embassies of the
Member Countries in Tehran or any other ECO related Focal Points in the
Member Countries. He asked for the technical assistance of Iran in this
regard.
ECO Secretary General as well referred to the agenda of the 4th ECO Ministerial Meeting on Communication and added that in the said meeting a comprehensive report will be provided on the follow up and implementation of the approved decisions of the previous meetings on the said subject.
