Workshop on Privatization in the ECO Countries

            The ECO Workshop on Privatization in the ECO Countries was held in cooperation with the Privatization Administration of the Republic of Turkey from 10-11 June 2002 in Istanbul, Turkey.

 

            The objective of the said workshop was to contribute to the enhancement of the skill of national privatization officials from the ECO Member States, providing them with the new developments on privatization trends and to create a regional forum to share knowledge and expertise among the Member States and to benefit from each other’s experiences. The workshop also aimed at providing the transfer of knowledge and expertise among the participants; raising in the implementation and design of privatization programmes awareness on the prospects for further privatization; and assessing the impact of privatization on public finance and national levels.

 

            The workshop was inaugurated by the President of the Privatization Administration of Turkey, Mr. Turgut Bozkurt and attended by high-level experts of the concerned privatization agencies of the Member States, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan. In addition to the presentations made by the representatives of the Member States, experts from the Privatization Administration of Turkey have also contributed to the proceedings.

 

            The meeting was expected to provide an opportunity for participants to establish contacts and improve their awareness of the availability of advice and assistance.

 

            At the conclusion of the workshop, a set of recommendations was approved for the consideration of the proceeding ECO meetings. The delegates have also declared their wish for the ECO Secretariat to continue working out the subject and organizing such activities in the future.
