ECO Training Workshop on Refining Production and Market Study

Economic Cooperation Organization held its 2nd Workshop on
Refining, Production and Market Study in Esafahan on 6-8 May 2002.
National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (N.I.O.R.D.C.)
a subsidiary of Ministry of Petroleum of the Islamic Republic of Iran,
hosted the event.
High level officials from the concerned industries of ECO Member
States namely Interim Administration of Afghanistan, Republic of Azerbaijan,
Islamic Republic of Iran, Kyrgyz Republic and Islamic Republic of Pakistan
participated in the event.
During the inauguration messages of Mr. Aghaee, Deputy Minister of
Petroleum of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Dr. Abdolrahim Gavahi,
Secretary General of ECO were read on their behalf.
In his message, ECO Secretary General highlighted the importance of
privatization in the oil and gas sectors of ECO counties while emphasizing
on the vital role that foreign investment might play to promote exploration,
production and marketing of the region’s hydrocarbon resources, resulting
in raising of living standards of respective nations.
The Workshop discussed among other things such topics as Energy
Policy, Fundamentals of Oil Markets, Upstream, Downstream Developments, Swap
of Oil and Processed Products and Upgrading Refining Industry in some ECO
countries.
The participating delegates found it quite useful and had bilateral
and multilateral discussions upon mutually beneficial subjects.
During
a visit to Esfahan Refinery exchange of views took place between the
Technical Members of the delegations and their counterparts regarding the
refining issues in the Islamic Republic of Iran and other Member States of
ECO.
