The new FAO Rep. in Iran call on ECO Secretary General

            Dr. Abdur Rashid, the new Food and Agricultural Organization's (FAO) Representative in the Islamic Republic of Iran made a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Abdolrahim Gavahi, the Secretary General of Economic Cooperation Organization on January 28, 2002 at the ECO Secretariat.

            The two organizations have long standing cooperation on Food Security. A Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations is in place since 1997. The FAO is providing technical assistance to ECO on a project on Agriculture. ECO has also recently approved a resolution in support of FAO’s “ World Food Summit: five years later “, scheduled to be held in June 2002 in Rome.

            Economic Cooperation Organization with its headquarters in Tehran is a regional organization comprising Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
