A regional report on Millennium Development Health related Goals in Economic Cooperation Organizations (ECO) countries (Goals 4, 5 and 6)

As recommended by 19th RPC Meeting, for preparing a regional analytical report on prioritized Millennium Development Goals (Goal 4: Reduce Child Mortality, Goal 5: Improve Maternal Health, and Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases) utilizing the experiences of an international consultant, the Secretariat approached concerned international organizations for the purpose.

United Nation Children’s Fund (UNICEF) had agreed to fully support this consultancy, technically and financially. Within close cooperation of ECO Secretariat and UNICEF, a Consultant Team from Institute of Public Health Research affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Science, consisting of six University Professors and researchers was established to work on the report.

The members of the Consultant Team made fact finding trips to selected ECO Member States (Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Turkey), to get a clear picture of the prevailing situation of the issues in order to prepare the report.  The draft report was prepared in the year 2009 and the Secretariat sent a copy of the related parts of the report to each Member States for their consideration and comments. The report was finalized in April 2010.
