Introduction to Winners of:

ECO Excellence Award – 2006

(Baku/Azerbaijan - May 5, 2006)

            ECO Excellence Award is distributed biennially in the field of (i) economics, (ii) history, culture, literature and fine arts, (iii) education, (iv) science and technology, and (v) agriculture and environment.  The objective of the Award is to recognize outstanding research work and achievements in the Member States in the above mentioned fields.

 

            Following the decision of 111th CPR, the Permanent Representatives/Representatives of the Member States, as a Selection Committee, met at the ECO Secretariat on Wednesday, 12 April 2006 and reviewed the nominations received from the Member States and made necessary recommendations for the ECO Award which was adopted by 112th CPR and is expected to be approved by the 16th Council of Ministers (COM) meeting and will be awarded during the 9th ECO Summit which is going to be held on 5th May 2006 in Baku, Azerbaijan.  The meeting was chaired by H.E. Mr. Abbasali K. Hassanov, Ambassador/Permanent Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan.  The Permanent Representatives/Representatives of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Turkey and Republic of Uzbekistan as well as ECO Secretary General along with the Secretariat staff attended the meeting.  With the exception of Turkmenistan and Republic of Turkey, nominations were received from all other Member States.

 

            The following candidates nominated by the Member States were declared winner of the ECO Excellence Award 2006:

            The winners of the ECO Award will be given an amount of US$5000/- each along with a medallion and certificate for the ECO Excellence Award 2006.
