would like to extend my congratulations on your assumption of office as
the new Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization
(ECO). I also express my warm felicitations to Your Excellency and
esteemed colleagues in the ECO Secretariat on the ECO Day, Seventh of
Azar, 28th of November 2006. It reminds us of the expansion
of the ECO to a membership of ten countries.
It
is heartening that the Economic Cooperation Organization, moving towards
its consolidation process has reached the stage of implementing
important and effective regional projects such as the ECO Trade and
Development Bank, entry into force of the Transit Transport Framework
Agreement and finalization of ECO Trade Agreement (ECOTA). These have
institutionalized and reinforced development of regional cooperation
within the framework of the organization. I am confident that during
your term of office, we will witness fruition of the efforts of the
member countries during the past one and a half decade and
implementation of the ongoing programms and the projects.
I
assure you that the Islamic Republic of Iran, as the host country of ECO
Secretariat and as an active member of the organization, will continue
to support and facilitate activities of the Secretariat.
