There are not many institutions offering Bachelor level studies in Insurance in the World. The universities which offer courses in the field of Insurance, as a rule, also include courses in  Economics and Business Administration, while the legal aspects of insurance are normally covered by the Law degree courses. There was, therefore, there was urgent need for the revival of "Economic Cooperation Organizations(ECO) College of Insurance". The College has the support of the ECO. Council of Ministers and its management includes an Insurance Management Board and a Governing Body.

 

According to a decree granted by the Ministry of Culture and Higher Education of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the College is affiliated with the Allameh Tabataba’i University, a leading University in Liberal Arts and Managerial Science located in Tehran.

 

With the growth in insurance business there has been a demand for insurance industry to provide support o the vast range of life, health, and social insurance. Business world is now more insurance – conscious and is well versed with insurances technicalities. This phenomenon of increased awareness and keen competition has given rise to a need for qualified, well-trained experts who are equipped to take up the challenge of changing time and situation. Scientific methods are now being applied by the industries to assess risks and solve problems. It is this growing need that has made the revival of the College even more important.

 

The College primarily accommodates students from the E.C.O. member countries and extends its services to other countries as well.

Objective

The E.C.O. College of Insurance is a state-owned and nonprofit institution of higher learning. Its program spreads over a period of four years of education leading to the Bachelor of Science degree in Insurance Management. The basic aim of the College is to fulfill the growing need for qualified professionals in the insurance industry.

 

The following indicates the objectives of the ECO. College of Insurance:

  1. To create a suitable and well-equipped environment along with a higher standard of education.

  2. To train students in such a manner that they are able to take up the responsibility expected of them.

  3. To provide students with full opportunities so that they may be able to abreast themselves with the latest techniques in insurance management.

  4. To establish formal links with other well-reputed universities, colleges, and professional institutions imparting knowledge of insurance and risk management.

  5. To expand cooperation through research in the field of insurance and risk management and exchange academic information and qualified instructors.

The medium of education in the College is English and the admission is strictly on merit.

Outlook

The program is designed in such a way so as to help students in developing their knowledge in the field of insurance and related subjects. Emphasis is put on training students to enable them to use their skills and judgment to the industry’s best advantage.

 

The program covers a period of four years comprising of eight semesters, totaling 140 credit hours to acquire a bachelor’s degree. The degree will be awarded to those who satisfactorily complete the requirements with an overall Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) of 12.00 (out of 20) including all failures.

 

The academic year includes two regular semesters with 17 weeks of classes in each semester. All official vacations and holidays are announced before the start of each academic year.

Credit & Grading System

The schedule of grades is based on the standard system of letter grade denoting level of scholastic and a numerical equipment in the scale from 0 to 20. Each grade corresponds to a number denoting quality points.

 

The credit system adopted by the College comprises of the number of hours assigned to each course per week and indicates the relevant importance of each course that has been allocated to it during the semester.

 

Students are not permitted to take less than 10 and more than 20 credit hours each semester.

Grade Requirements

A student in the degree program must obtain a minimum G.P.A. of 12.00 each semester are placed on probation.

 

Students who remain on probation for three successive or four interrupted semester are required to withdraw.

 

Conduct

Students are expected to conduct themselves at all times in a manner worthy of their honour and college. The College reserves the right at any time to exclude, suspend, or dismiss from all college-related facilities and activates students whose conduct it regards as undesirable.

Admission Requirements

For each year, a notice announcing the admission and enrolment procedure and the registration date is published in leading newspapers. At the same time all the necessary information is also available at the College and the Iranian Embassy and Consulate General Office in the respective countries.

 

Admission of applicants is considered on merit. In order to become eligible for admission to the College an applicant must meet the following criteria.

Checklist of necessary Documents

  1. Complete application form.

  2. Valid and certified copies of high school 12th grade or equivalent diploma/certificate.

  3. Valid and certified copies of mark sheet of (2) above.

  4. One copy of document certifying applicant’s proficiency in English.

  5. Two character certificates from the teachers of the institution last attended by the applicant.

  6. A valid health certificate.

  7. A certificate of financial support.

  8. A copy of applicant’s identification card or passport.

  9. Ten recent passport-size photos.

The ECO College of Insurance invites applications for admission to a program of study leading to B.S. degree in Insurance Management.

 

The College is a specialized agency of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and has been established according to a decree granted by the ECO Council of Ministers. It is also affiliated with the Allameh Tabatabai University which is one of the leading Iranian universities in Humanities, Management and Social Sciences. The College is fully accredited by the Iranian Ministry of Culture and Higher Educational and Higher Education bodies of Pakistan and Turkey.

 

While studying at the College, the students also benefit from exemptions of The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) of London that has awarded the following exemptions from their ACII Associate ship examinations:

For Iranian applicants, admission is trough the general universities entrance test in June/July each year.

 

Other non-Iranian applicants contact in the first place with the college admission who will then nominate them to the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology for appraisal.

Tuition Fees

Students entering trough the university general admittance test in Iran, benefit from the fee-exemption status for Iranian students and university scholarships. For self-financing students, however, current fees (under review) are 2000$ for undergraduate courses, 3000$ for research degrees per annum.

Programme of Studies

 

The College year includes two regular semesters with seventeen weeks of classes each semester. The program of studies has been conceived to provide an all-round four year education leading to the bachelor of science degree in Insurance Management.

 

The whole curriculum comprises of 135 credit hours in addition to a maximum of 12 credit hours of pre-university courses. The total credits distributed over 8 semesters ranging between 17 and 20 credits per semester as follows:
